A Woodridge man was found not guilty of murdering his father with a weed trimmer by reason of insanity, according to The Chicago Tribune. The case of a Coal City man accused of a "thrill" carjacking in Woodridge in May returns to court Tuesday, but it might happen without the man charged in attendance. A warrant for Michael Buhrman was issued in September after his GPS monitor sent a tampering alert to authorities. Police in Coal City did not find him at his home and Buhrman has not been seen since. A judge has forfeited Buhrman's $200,000 bail and could set the case for trial. Police arrested Buhrman, a former engineer at the Dresden Nuclear Power Plant in Morris, after he allegedly wore a mask and pointed a gun at a woman sitting inside a car on May 9. Prosecutors unsuccessfully sought to increase Buhrman's bail to $1 million over the summer after a woman reported Buhrman …

The case against a Woodridge man charged with murdering his father has been continued until October. Woodridge resident Yashesh Desai made a brief appearance in front of DuPage County Court Judge Robert Kleeman on Wednesday. At the state's request, a psychiatrist was to submit a report regarding Desai's sanity. Due to scheduling conflicts, however, the psychiatrist has requested an additional three weeks to prepare the reports. The judge continued Desai's case for four weeks, at which point each side will determine how it wants to proceed. A 22-year-old Woodridge man charged with beating his father to death with a weed trimmer is showing mental and physical improvement while in treatment at an Illinois Department of Human Services facility, according to officials. Police say Yashesh Desai, of Woodridge, killed his father, Sanjiv Desai, Aug. 14 by beating him in the head with a weed trimmer. He was indicted Sept. 8 with five counts of first degree murder. Desai was also charged with aggravated battery after officials said he bit a prison officer's finger hard enough to break it. A report from the Illinois Department of Human Services indicates Yashesh Desai has shown signs of improvement but remains unfit to stand trial for the murder of his father. During a Friday hearing, Judge Robert Kleeman referenced the findings and noted Desai remains on course with the one-year treatment timeline expected to be needed to restore Desai’s ability to understand and assist his defense in court hearings. “It appears he’s at least making some progress,” Kleeman said, citing the report issued in late December. A court hearing has been scheduled to re-examine the fitness of a 21-year-old charged with murdering his father and assaulting a jail guard. Attorneys will return to court on Jan. 27 for a hearing in the case of Yashesh Desai, of 3 Plover Court. Desai was found unfit to stand trial in November and was sent to a downstate Illinois Department of Human Services facility for treatment since just after Thanksgiving. Court records indicate a DHS treatment plan has been released to attorneys and the next court hearing will "re-examine (Desai's) fitness." The report has been sealed from public inspection.
