District 68, 99 Bus Terminal Won't be in Lisle

Bus company Westway Coach will continue to find a location for a bus terminal that will serve the Downers Grove and Woodridge school districts.

Though Lisle village trustees called a 10-minute recess for the village attorney to make revisions to a document that would allow bus company Westway Coach to operate a terminal on Indiana Avenue, they ultimately decided against the special use request in a 4-2 vote Monday evening.  This is the second time the board saw a presentation from the company, which begins serving Downers Grove school districts 58 and 99, and Woodridge School District 68 this school year.  In June trustees voted to send the request back through the planning and zoning process after accusations that the first public hearing had not been conducted properly. District 68 and District 99 said the denied request wouldn't affect bus service for their students. The first …

A Summer's Worth of Bus Terminal Controversy

Request for location rejected by Lisle Village Board Monday night.

With only one week until the start of school, the request for a bus terminal to serve Districts 58, 68 and 99 was rejected by the Lisle Village Board Monday night.   Bus service for District 68 will go on, according to Kevin Wegner, assistant superintendent of business for the district. The district will continue to use its terminal in Lemont, Wegner said. The terminal has been a source of contention for some Lisle residents and business owners who live and work near the proposed location for the terminal.  That contention has caused the request to bounce from the Lisle Planning and Zoning Commission to the Lisle Village Board to the Planning and Zoning Commission and now back to village board again.  The planning board approved a special …

Districts 68, 99 Bus Terminal Request Sent Back to Lisle Planning Commission

Westway Coach will continue special use request process or consider alternative location for buses to serve Districts 58, 68, 99.

Where Westway Coach, Inc., will set up a bus terminal and dispatch center to serve Districts 58, 68 and 99 is still unclear after the Lisle Village Board voted Wednesday to send a special use permit for a location in Lisle back to the Lisle Planning and Zoning Commission.  Westway Coach, Inc., will serve Districts 58, 68 and 99 through an agreement between the three districts to consolidate bus services. Westway's three-year contract with the three districts starts July 1. The decision will save District 68 $200,000 a year, according to Kevin Wegner, assistant superintendent of business for the district.  The proceedings for a proposed bus terminal and dispatch center at 4951 Indiana Ave. in Lisle has been met with concern from some Lisle …

Lisle Residents Have Mixed Reactions to New Bus Terminal for Districts 58, 68 and 99

The three districts voted in February to consolidate bus services through one company, Westway Coach, Inc. The change required a new bus terminal.

A proposed bus terminal that would serve School Districts 58, 68 and 99 got a mixed reaction from Lisle residents Wednesday.  “I can just see the stream of yellow buses,” said A Generation Ahead owner and operator Tim Kostecki at Wednesday’s Village of Lisle planning and zoning commission meeting. The proposed bus terminal would be located at 4951 Indiana Ave., dispatching at roughly the same time Kostecki expects 30 to 40 morning drop-offs at his nearby daycare center. Villa Park-based Westway Coach. Inc. applied for a special use permit to take advantage of the vacant industrial parking lot (formerly Tellabs). A half-dozen speakers and commission members expressed some support, but also concern of the project’s impact. Ultimately the …
