D68 Could Require Classes on Holidays

The Woodridge School District 68 board will hold a hearing Feb. 4 to discuss holding classes on various holidays, such as Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and Veterans Day.

Should students and teachers be in class on holidays? The Woodridge School District 68 board is holding a hearing to discuss that option.  The Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School, 7200 Janes Ave. in Woodridge. District 68 officials are requesting a modification of 105 ILCS 5/24-2, which states that teachers shall not be required to work on legal school holidays. The board proposes a waiver application for an "all-purpose holiday."   That could mean regular class schedules and attendance, but also include parent-teacher conferences, school improvement session, teacher in-service days or teacher institutes, according to the District 68 website.
