Woodridge resident Tom Senne was named the Woodridge Park District's 2012 Coach of the Year in March, over five other nominated coaches, an honor that the 45-year-old basketball and softball coach and father of two is relishing, the Suburban Life reports. "It really is a nice honor for me," Senne told the paper. "I have been doing this for quite awhile now, and I have seen other coaches who have won the same award. And it really is a bigger deal than I thought it would be." The Woodridge Park District is asking for nominations for coach of the year. All nominees will be recognized.
A youth sports coach can have a special impact on a child, and the Woodridge Park District wants to recognize the best local coaches. "Coaching youth sports is more than just teaching the X’s and the O’s," A Park District news release stated. "Good sportsmanship, a positive attitude and self-discipline are expected by parents and nowadays expectations couldn’t be higher." Peter Freischlag will be recognized later this month by the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association.
The Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTCA) has named Downers Grove South High School's boys tennis coach Peter Freischlag “Coach of the Year” for 2012. Freischlag, who is also a teacher in the special services department at South High, will be recognized later this month following his team's successful fall season, according to District 99 officials. Each year, the IHSTCA recognizes a coach based on team record, obstacles the team faced, contributions the coach made to the sport outside of the high school season and player development. Dusan Strmcnik is a U-14 Boys Woodridge Storm team.
The following is a press release from the Woodridge Park District. The Woodridge Park District recently chose Dusan Strmcnik as the 2011 Coach of the Year. As part of the award’s criteria, Dusan has demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship, player development and leadership during his time as the coach of the U14 Boys Woodridge Storm team. Dusan started coaching in the Woodridge Storm program two and a half years ago and has been with the same team ever since. He is extremely thankful for the award and believes the award should really go to the boys. “The boys have been playing with some fantastic offensive soccer skills. Ed Hartig was awarded Coach of the Year last week by the Woodridge Park District.
The Woodridge Park District received 12 nominations for the 2010 Coach of the Year -- five of those were for Ed Hartig, the head coach of the U-12 Girls Woodridge Storm traveling soccer team. "It seemed like the main focus of what the parents were saying is he promotes fun and the love of the game first and foremost, before winning itself," said Dan Peboontom, athletic supervisor for the Park District. "Being a Park District, that's pretty key in my eyes." Peboontom said Hartig was also chosen because his players had improved from year to the next. Ed Hartig, head coach of the U-12 Girls Woodridge Storm traveling soccer team, has been chosen as the Woodridge Park District's 2010 Coach of the Year. Hartig has coached the team for the past two years. According to a press release from the Park District, Hartig has "encouraged player development in a positive manner and has also demonstrated good sportsmanship during his time as a coach in the 2010 calendar year."
