Note: Patch has no control over the status of these posts on Craigslist and how long they remain available. Dispense yourself some appropriately ice-cold drinks from this Blackhawks-themed vending machine, with slots for four different beverages (bottles or cans,) plus additional storage in the stand in the back. All the satisfaction of a vending machine, without that pesky part where you have to pay for it (or, at least, you collect your own payment later.) Going for $450 out of Woodridge. I golf at Village Greens a fair bit, and I can attest that the ad space on the club’s scoreboard is highly prominent. Now, for just $20,000, you can …

The 50-foot-wide electromagnet will travel 3,200 miles by boat and barge this summer to be part of a new experiment that will study particle physics.
A particle storage ring spanning 50 feet in diameter will be travelling through Darien and Woodridge this summer during a 3,200-mile journey from New York to Illinois. The giant electromagnet is headed to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, just outside Batavia, where it will be used in an experiment called Muon g-2, and will study the properties of muons, tiny subatomic particles that exist for only 2.2 millionths of a second. The ring, made of steel and aluminum, is part of a machine built at New York's Brookhaven National Laboratory in the 1990s. Although most of the machine can be disassembled and brought to Fermilab in trucks, the massive electromagnet must be transported in one piece, and cannot tilt or twist more than a few …
It's Police Week in the United States; in that spirit, we asked our local readers in DuPage County what they appreciate most about their local force.
Did you know that this week—May 13-20—is officially Police Week in the United States? According to PoliceWeek.org: In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. In the spirit of the week, we reached out to our DuPage County readers on Facebook and asked what they appreciate most about their local police departments. Here’s some of what readers shared with us: Carol Gog: “Back in the nineties, I locked my keys in …

If perhaps you think your newly-wedded friend is locking in his pick a bit too soon—or if you just want to make him laugh—this $30 fake ball ‘n’ chain from a Naperville seller might be the perfect gift from a best man. It’s just sand-filled plastic, though so probably not recommended for actually locking down prisoners or wandering husbands. Think your job is a load of, er, dung? How about a career change to a job that is literally loading dung? That’s right, it’s your dream job: …

The 68,000-square-foot store will break ground later this year at the northwest corner of Boughton Road and Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. The Warren, Michigan based furniture retailer purchased the six-acre site at the intersection owned by Countryside-based Gallagher & Henry. Diane K. Charles, Director of Corporate Communications for Art Van Furniture indicated that “Working with the Village of Woodridge has been a pleasure. We received a warm welcome by the Economic Development Team which helped us through the entire approval process. We thank the Mayor and the …

A major business renewing its lease continues the trend of growth in the Village’s numerous industrial parks and business parks.
The Village of Woodridge is seeing a strong and growing business presence in its 10 business and industrial parks, a major source of tax revenue for the Village, with the latest boon coming from manufacturing company GKN Walterscheid consolidating its operations in the Village and renewing a 10-year leads in Wood Hill Crossing, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, Woodridge village officials have noticed several of the Village’s other companies expanding their presence in the Village as well. The Village’s industrial-park vacancy rate is just 7 percent, compared to 9.6 in the Chicago area at large, the paper said. "We're very excited about the GKN's expansion and strengthening of our industrial base in the village,” …

This authenticated slice of the Chicago Stadium floor was in use from the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s, which means, yes, this was the regular stomping ground of His Airness himself, likely the very floor where the 1992 championship was won in Game 6! For that kind of memorabilia, $350 to this Lisle seller may well be a deal. Okay, I realize that “creepy” is a judgment call on my part, but the “natural, dark wheat-colored toasty finish” on these disembodied torsos just makes them look to me like they’re being filmed through a …

The mayor-elect, who will become Woodridge’s first mayor not named William Murphy in three decades, spotlights her business experience and emphasizes the need for resident involvement.
Village of Woodridge mayor-elect Gina Cunningham-Picek said that her experience as Bridgeview Bank market president and former president of the Woodridge Chamber of Commerce will be instrumental to her role as she takes over for the three-decade retiring Mayor William Murphy, in an interview with the Bugle last week. “When you’re elected to office, you bring all of your experience to the table,” Cunningham-Picek told the paper. “I do business development; that’s what I do… I help business grow, and that skillset will enhance my impact.” Cunningham-Picek told the paper that Murphy, who has headed the Village for the past 30 years, was “truly a mentor in [my] life” and said that she was deeply honored to receive his endorsement during the …

Would your drinks taste better of they were mixed by a ditzy-looking half-naked lady with her, uh, formidable chest hanging out? Well, sadly, none of those are for sale (that actually might be slavery, come to think of it,) but a Lisle seller has a miniature, motorized soft-rubber version on sale for $150. We added a little black bar to the image, but if you really want to see fake breasts, you can click through to the post. Or just pick up any given supermarket-checkout magazine. The warm weather is finally (finally!) starting to …
